Overview - A worldwide service for sawmills
With historical connections dating back to the 19th Century, Lancashire Saw Company is one of the oldest-established and largest bandsaw makers in Europe. Using only the finest quality Swedish and European steels, our experts who are fully-trained by us in the art of saw manufacturing, create some of the world's finest bandsaws. With our extensive transport facilities, we collect and deliver over 2000 bandsaws each week from our UK locations in Blackburn and Edinburgh, as part of our unrivalled and comprehensive service to sawmills ! Our Machinery Division supplies and installs new and reconditioned equipment for sawmills, timber importers and the joinery trade. Through our Tooling Division, we supply the trade with a vast range of consumable products. Anything from machine knives through to grinding wheels and saw doctoring equipment.
BANDSAWS
At Lancashire Saw we manufacture wide bandsaws from the finest Swedish and European steels, from 16" (406mm) wide double cut saws, down to 21/2" (63mm) wide and narrow bandsaws from1/8" (3mm) wide.
Each of our wide range of wood bandsaws is produced from top quality Swedish and European precision steel strip. This hardened and tempered steel strip is manufactured in a specially adapted, closely supervised, production sequence. Final adjustment of the molten steel in an ADD convener and ladle furnace results in a chemical composition with narrow tolerances for all alloying elements and low content of non-metallic inclusions.
Close-rolling in modern mills means close thickness tolerances and fine, smooth surfaces. All heat-treatment processes are checked and controlled very closely to avoid carburization and decarburization. Hardening and tempering take place in furnaces which give the strip an extremely high standard of flatness and very precise strength tolerances.
The majority of our bandsaw production processes are highly automated, however, for total product quality certain stages can only be completed by skilled craftsmen, many of whom, we are proud to say, have been with Lancashire Saw all their working lives.
For your peace of mind all Lancashire Saw products are not only guaranteed by ourselves but the materials from which they are produced enjoy the technical back-up of Sandvik Steel and our other steel suppliers.
BANDSAW PRODUCTION
The company manufactures wide bandsaws from 16" (406mm) wide double cut saws, down to 21/2" (63mm) wide and narrow bandsaws from1/8" (3mm) wide, each of which is produced from the highest quality hardened and tempered precision steel strip. Each and every stage of our bandsaw production process is subjected to precise controls to ensure our bandsaws perform to maximum effectiveness.
The first operation is to punch teeth in the blank strip, which is then joined by the latest welding and tempering technology, ensuring a resilient and safe joint. Next, the critical levelling, straightening and tensioning takes place, followed by swage setting and sharpening to achieve a good tooth shape with well rounded gullets. Tooth shape and gullet are critical to the efficiency of the bandsaw and relate specifically to the timber to be processed.
In bandsaw production, Swedish strip offers accurate flatness and edge straightness. At the sawmill, accurately manufactured Lancashire Saw bandsaw blades, contribute to increased production efficiency.
Stellite tipping is essential for cutting extremely hard and abrasive timbers. Many of the high production softwood sawmills are also turning to Stellite to increase production levels. The Stellite tipping production process employs state-of-the-art technology which commences with the fusing of high density Stellite to each tooth point and is then followed by tempering and precision side grinding which results in the manufacture of a highly efficient saw blade.
Circular Saws
Ranging in diameter from 6" (152mm) up to 73" (1830mm) our circular saws are suitable for all woodworking applications - hard and soft woods, ripping, cross-cutting and general use.
Tungsten Carbide Tipped
Saws
Our heavy-duty tungsten carbide tipped saw blades are
precision manufactured to the highest standards of accuracy,
perfectly combining heavy gauge hardened, tempered, ground and
smithed saw bodies with industrial grade carbide tips.
Double Slabber/Edger Saws
For use on double slabbers and board edgers. Produced from laser
cut heavy duty plate with cluster teeth formation, these saws are
available for all types of machines.
Inserted Tooth Saws
For use on all types of sawbenches. The saws have removable teeth
which can be sharpened in situ.
Multi-Rip Saws
For use on all types of multi-rip machines with various
configurations of wiper slots and tooth formations for maximum
efficiency when cutting with the grain.

Sandvik Swedish Steel Bandsaw Strip
Sandvik Steel is one of the world's largest manufacturers of bandsaw strip steel; strip distinguished by consistently high quality, which assures its customers high productivity and reliability in the production of bandsaws for sawmills, timber importers and the joinery trade.
Sandvik, at its mill in Sandviken, Sweden, has been manufacturing strip steel for demanding applications for over a century. Hardened and tempered strip steel for the production of bandsaws has always been one of the cornerstones of its product programme. In fact, Sandvik has pioneered the worldwide supply of strip steel in bright polished and Super Blue surface finishes for this application. The features of blades made from Sandvik Super Blue bandsaw strip include the ability to retain tension and flatness longer, less build-up on blades together with lower friction between blade guides.
Extensive development work is constantly undertaken, working closely with customers and end users in saw mills, forestry industries and joinery factories throughout the world. It is through this close co-operation that Sandvik bandsaw strip has achieved an enviable reputation for surface finish, flatness and edge straightness.
Sandvik has full control of the steel properties, from the right chemistry of the melt to the required dimensional accuracy of the finished strip. From beginning to end, steel strip production is monitored by a Statistical Process Control System, part of an intensive GA system which is approved by official inspection agencies and regulatory authorities.
Long experience of strip manufacture, wide-ranging market knowledge, advanced technical equipment and skilled engineers mean Sandvik enjoy H&D resources among the finest in the steel industry. They also enjoy a unique system of inventory management, wholly computerized and based on their worldwide network of warehouses, dedicated to delivering the right product at the right time
